I was supposed to do this back in January but got horribly sick and couldn't go on that trip. However, we had a beautiful day for our outing (before we get snow tomorrow and Monday). It was very difficult to sneak into this location because it just so happened there was a marathon going on around us, so tons of police presence... but we made it in, even though we had to dodge a helicopter that kept flying overhead (it was flying low enough to see passengers inside).

(22,380 posts)or new "old" things, as it were. It's the sort of adventure I love, and now I got to go with you on yours.
Very sensitively photographed and presented, especially the color.
If you don't mind telling me where approximately this is, I'm interested to know.
Thanks for this unusual and fascinating post.

(18,219 posts)This place must have been abandoned for eternity, with the size of that tree growing inside the old frame of the greenhouse.
Glad you didn't get caught sneaking in....it sounds like it was not the best day for that adventure. Have you ever been caught? What happened if you were?

(14,040 posts)I've been caught in an actual abandonment once and I've been caught going towards/heading in several times.
The time I was caught, it was by this guy who was carrying a taser and a huge attitude. He was wearing a Redskins tee and basketball shorts, an extra hundred pounds or so and kept talking about how he was "Homeland Security." I was with a group of people and we were extra polite, apologized and left. The other times I was told to skedaddle and I did. I'm always polite as possible because more often than not, I'm trespassing, so I figure it'd be non-productive to be rude for someone doing their job. If we're in a place we have permission for, I'm also extra polite because I want them to think of that when people ask for permission to photograph an abandoned spot.

You must be much braver than I am.
I am surprised that a tree could be that huge in 20 years. My trees that are that big are over 100 years old. That is some fertile soil!
