Sonoran Scenes

I'll be leaving SC in two weeks for almost 6 months in the Coronado National Forest - Pusch Ridge Wilderness - working a fire lookout on Lemmon Mountain. I will be able to see both the Saguaro NP East & West from my near-9000 foot perch. I'm looking forward to a lot of night and lightning photography this fire season. This red circle on this photo is the approximate location I'll spend this fire season. This photo was taken from the Saguaro NP East.

Ah, wonderful pictures!

I especially like the second one; the glowing sky is just wonderful.

The Invert is really interesting as well...

You will have a much different experience in the desert. No more piney woods.

But knowing you, I know that you'll make the most of it.

Safe travels out!

You'll find plenty of piney woods up on Mount Lemmon (AKA "Frog Mountain&quot : at that elevation you'll be in the Alpine wilderness region. Cold, windy and absolutely beautiful! The little town at the peak is named Summerhaven, an apt description.

snow on the mountain and heat in the valley. Lived right off of Sabino Canyon Road and E. Sunrise. I haven't been back to Tucson since 1999.

It is a hike in to the lookout (I am not sure how far or how difficult, but it can't be that bad). The USFS will restrict visitation during periods of high fire danger and local lightning activity. In other words, come on up!

probably 30 years ago. can't do stairs for shit now. Enjoy but watch the lightening come late June! High winds up there on Sunday - blew some power lines down for radio transmitters.

Pusch Ridge is where there is a somewhat controversial ongoing attempt to reestablish bighorns (turned a pile of them loose, lions ate most of them, lions got shot, rinse, repeat)

My wife's aunt, who introduced us, was a long time docent at Saguaro National Park East. Something like 20 years I believe.

When I was a kid we used to go out on East Tanque Verde Wash and visit an elderly (or at he seemed so to us) man who was respectfully called an Indian then, he was Hopi, but would be called a Native American today. He made Kachinas (note: not "Kachina dolls&quot and would tell us their histories, always referring to them by name and as "this person." He spoke slowly and softly and held our rapt attention for hours.
