...I came in here to post my vacation "moonset at sunrise" shots!
My sweetie and I went to Crestone, CO, for our three-year anniversary. Took the dogs. They growled at something in the yard where we were staying (coyote or bear, most likely), and woke up my SO around sunrise. He looks out the window and wakes me to show me the big, fat moon. Naturally, I grabbed my camera and stood on the deck in my pjs, getting eaten alive by skeeters for 45 minutes to get the following shots - the best moon photos I've ever taken.

I am so glad you got these pictures.
Thank you for sharing them, and Happy Anniversary!

(28,451 posts)It was only the second vacation we'd been on together, and the first was a disaster! Very nice to get away into the cool mountains and see cool things with my sweetheart, mosquitos be damned!

The mosquitos don't seem to attack me as much as they do other people, for whatever reason. I was annoyed by their buzzing around while I took these but didn't sustain any bites, as far as I can tell. My SO, on the other hand, looks like he has the chicken pox from all the bites.

(9,314 posts)I love all of the layers to the photos....the second one the moon is framed by layers of clouds. It rather reminds me of my favorite Ansel Adams photo of the moon in New Mexico.
Happy Anniversary!

(28,451 posts)Adams was probably the biggest influence on my photography, the person whose work I aspire to match the most. I am not worthy to be compared - but am still tickled pink that you have done so!

(9,314 posts)Do you know what photo I'm talking about?

(28,451 posts)The feel and the shadows just didn't translate very well. I used to like shooting in B&W back in the film days, it has a depth quality I've never been able to recreate with any satisfaction from my digital images.
And no, I can't picture the Adams shot you're referring to. Can you find it and post it for me to drool over?

I think you would be surprised how yours come out with a little dodging and burning - much like Adams did in the darkroom.

(28,451 posts)The skeeters weren't too, too bad, mostly a PITA buzzing around my head as I waited for the moon to sink through various layers of clouds.

(28,451 posts)To give you a more accurate sense of scale, the mountains in the foreground are about 10,000 feet tall, and the faint mountains behind them include a fourteener or two. The farther ones are all bald on top.
