Quarryhill is a 25-acre Asian botanical garden in Glen Ellen, California.

Another month and the place should be full of color.

(149,308 posts)I especially like your macro shots, but they are all beautiful...

(19,459 posts)I'm still a bit hobbled by my cam boot and it just seemed like too much hassle to lug the tripod with me (there is a lot of uphill/downhill at this place). Some of the shots would have been better had I had it.
Still, got my first decent hike in since I hurt my foot!

(35,435 posts)We were at a restaurant tonight, and as I looked out the window, I saw a tree, barren of all leaves. It could have been October.
Your pictures are a reminder that our time will come, so thank you.
It surprises me how many plants we have in common--east coast here.

(19,459 posts)We've taken several road trips there and through the Southeast, and we're always impressed by how green and lush things are.
In fact, my youngest daughter was back there in Princeton for a wedding this weekend; she posted some photos on FB, and they had me pining for another trip back there (our last was in May, 2012).
Our part of California (just northeast of San Francisco) can be quite lovely in winters when we get rain with rolling, emerald green hills, and oaks but can be very dry and brown during summer as we don't get your summer rains and humidity. In fact, we haven't had much rain at all for the last few years.

(20,886 posts)I did spring last year, and was going to do autumn. But I missed. I converted my convertable tripod to a monopod when I went. I loved the huge sculpture tucked away among the plants. Must have been some job installing it all. It was supposed to be a (long term) temporary exhibit so I don't know if it's still there.

(19,459 posts)Then they are going somewhere else.
You might be interested in taking a drive over there some time this month. Quarry Hill is having a photo contest until the end of the month, and will be open for extended hours to allow for early morning/evening light (7am-7pm).
Rhododendrons and azaleas should be bursting in another couple of weeks, and there were lots of buds on their flowering trees.

(20,886 posts)I might do that. Got a dedicated monopod coming Tuesday.
