Magnificent auroras last night in Rochester, NY -by Jim Montanus

One of my favorite local photographers was tipped off to the possibility of the auroras being visible as far south as our latitude and captured some amazing photographs as a result of his night-owl behavior.

I managed to rise early enough to take a drive in hopes of capturing some images of my own, however the location I chose was overcast and extremely windy.

Meanwhile, a mere 30 miles to the west of where I attempted, Jim managed to captured some crowd-pleasing images of the auroras as visible from Rochester, New York.

before I went to bed, but the clouds were starting to roll in. My friend Carl went a few miles north and got some great shots. I thought it was pretty exciting that people down in the L48 got to see them this time.
