found some blooms today

had to work a bit this afternoon, but colorado state university has a trial flower garden a few blocks from the office, so i stopped by afterwards to see what was happening. just pansies and violas, but i'll be checking back every couple of weeks. it's amazing when it's in full bloom.

this almost makes up for the fact that i decided against a walk this evening and missed a killer sunset.

we got some volunteers here

and i parked next to this

the lilacs at work have itty bitty buds on them, but that's about it. i feel like there should be more color already and i'm wondering if it doesn't have something to do with the fact that we didn't get cold until mid-february, but i could very well have pulled that straight from my keister.

My daughter went to law school there.

These flowers are beautiful. I love violas...they grow all around my yard, but not yet.

I had a senior moment there. . Law school was university of Oregon. Anyway...

My grandmother always had violas. We called them johnny-jump-ups when I was a kid. The ones in my gardens have hybridized so much over the years, I've got all colors, yellow, purple, white. I love them so much, even if they approach weed status here.

mom always called them johnny-jump-ups, too. i'd forgotten that until you'd mentioned it. i'm going to do some hanging pots on the patio this year and think i'll do one with some violas.

I have yet to see any color at all. Not even crocuses yet. Damn.

As to planting violas, they usually will not make it through the summer. They are cool weather plants. But they would be pretty to try in plantings anyways.
