(60,071 posts)I can see the improvement since you've been here. I like the framing of your image, the lighting, and the feel of the image.
You seem to love landscapes, it might be a good idea to check out this site. They helped me quite a bit.

(31,381 posts)because of its simplicity. But in the end I decided to enter the new one taken just for the contest. Sometimes it's hard to choose when the photos are so completely different.

(60,071 posts)If we get ten submissions this time of year, I'd be happy. I figured nobody wants to go outside if they don't have to go out.

(3,414 posts)I took this photo out of the window, on my way from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. I LOVE California, too bad I can't afford to live there.

(31,381 posts)from L.A. to Seattle last summer. I have quite a few shots out the window, too, but it wasn't as nice a day as what you had!
Nice shot!
PS: I lived in California from 1965-1988. Would never dream of moving back. I went to UCLA in '69 from San Diego area and stayed in L.A. for grad school and then to work. Traffic is just awful now. Water problems. Earthquakes. Due for a BIG one. You're right, though, about being able to afford to live there. We could never afford to buy back the house we sold when we left Santa Monica!

(3,414 posts)between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. That's my second favorite long distance train ride, one which I do often because I live in Texas and visit my children and grandchildren in Seattle. My favorite route is the California Zephyr, which goes from San Francisco to Chicago through the High Sierras in Eastern California (Donner Pass) and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I just love Amtrak! It sure beat flying!

(31,381 posts)Family was in California and we lived in New Jersey.
I remember--with great fondness--riding the 20th Century Limited to Chicago from NY
and then the Super Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles.
I have never ridden the California Zephyr route. That would be gorgeous scenery.

(46,436 posts)This is the only place I'll be at DU. I'm still not real happy with the tone of the place in general, but I had the picture from the ferry and it fit the topic, so here I am.
