My deck faces east, so we rarely get color at sunset. Tonight, the color in the sky was an amazing range of blues as the clouds were rolling in--bring more rain--and we still had that gorgeous golden light before it fades to dusk.
A little later I looked up to see the sky did have some peach color to the clouds to the north. Very unusual for us to get this kind of color at sunset.

(149,588 posts)You make me want to move east.
But I can't do that......my family and the home we built, are here.
So I admire from afar!

(31,384 posts)My husband is a native Californian born in Palo Alto. I moved to the north San Diego County area
in 1965 when my dad retired to his native California. Went to UCLA
in '69 after graduating from La Jolla High and stayed in L.A. through BS, MPH, first marriage, divorce, second marriage and first child. My husband
and I left in '88 with our 2 year old because we didn't want to raise kids in L.A. We first moved to St. Joseph, MO and then to Lincoln, NE. We finally
ended up here in Chapel Hill in 2000.
I have to say that for the entire time I lived in California I missed the seasons that we have here on the east coast. My childhood was spent growing up in
northern NJ (born in New York City--i.e. the Manhattan baby) close enough to take the train frequently in to the city.
My favorite seasons here in NC are spring and fall. I could completely do without the heat and humidity of summer in the south. The best
part of winter is the view from my deck!
I have never wanted to move back to California, but I sure wouldn't mind moving to one of the Hawaiian islands! But that's not going to happen.

We love it here and know (mostly) how to avoid the traffic. We'll be here till the toe tags go on.

(31,384 posts)Remember the days when you carried around a Thomas Guide in your car so you could get from the beach
to Glendale or Pasadena without using the freeway?
I've said that about being in a house until the toe tags go on...about two houses ago, I think.
Life has a way of getting in the way of expected plans, sometimes.
