One of these days I'll shock everyone and post a photo taken from the Marin side. It's just that Vista Point is often crowded, and Ft. Point not so much.
Edit: the first shot is the original, the next three are crops from it.
Edit again: GAH! 3 & 4 are cropped from #1! If I have such a thing as workflow, it doesnt function well on a couple of hours sleep.
(Sigh)...ok, Ive lost complete track of which was cropped from the first one, and which wasnt. Im getting a beer and calling it an evening...

(149,523 posts)These are just magnificent, and the glorious sunset is the icing on the cake.
Coming in closer and closer was a great way to get these beautiful shots.
Thank you!

(19,459 posts)I should probably have said that up front.
For transparencys sake I edited the OP to make things clear.
Edit: GAH! 3 & 4 are the images cropped from #1. It was early a.m. and I lost track of my workflow, such as it is.

(21,995 posts)The contrast between the magnificently engineered structure and the random beauty of the sky behind it is lovely.
Thanks for the beautiful picture, Adsos Letter.

(19,459 posts)I really enjoy photographing the bridge from Ft. Point. I agree with you that it's a pretty amazing structure. I've gotten some good photos from Vista Point, but the tour buses stop there, and the place is usually crowded, so I don't go there often.
Midweek I'll be driving down to San Diego, with a big loop out through Joshua Tree, and Anza-Borrego. Hoping the timing will be right for some desert wildflowers but they're predicting the bloom won't be as spectacular this year as in the past couple of years, so...fingers crossed!

(21,995 posts)It was held late in the afternoon so the setting sun would cast a golden glow on the newlyweds. Incredibly-- (snark)-- a fog bank was rolling in from the Pacific and it was going right beneath the bridge!

(19,459 posts)A big step up from my Nikon D7100, and more camera than I really know what to do with. It's my first full frame camera, and I admit to being pretty blown away by what I've seen it do so far with my limited abilities.
I shot these with the camera in Aperture Priority mode, mounted on a good tripod, and used a remote shutter release, with the camera in mirror up configuration, and with the VR switched to the Normal position.
I know this camera is capable of a lot in the hands of someone who really knows what they're doing. My wife bought it for me as a gift. I'm just hoping to grow into it enough to do some bit of justice to what it can do before I depart this earth (I'm 62, and diabetic, soooo...not too elderly yet, but not exactly a spring chicken either).
I'll certainly still keep my D7100; I have some good lenses for it (Nikon 17-55mm DX, a Sigma 50-100mm F1.8 Art, a Tokina 11-16mm, and a couple more Nikon lenses: 35mm, 50mm, 85mm primes). It's a good kit for walking around with, not too heavy (except with the Sigma, which is sort of a tank) and I've enjoyed it a lot. It's worked pretty well for landscape photography, and it's been great for people shots.
Sorry for prattling on. You got me on a roll.

(19,459 posts)Something about the coloration and massiveness of those concrete pylons and bumpers that form the anchors for the Fort Point Arch. For some reason, that portion of the bridge is more visually appealing to me than either the towers or the main span.

(1,020 posts)If you really want to take some unique shots, get on a boat and go *under* the GG bridge.
The architecture and engineering on display from underneath is stunning.
