Sunflowers!

I discovered that the City had planted a field of sunflowers at Dorothea Dix Park, which is very near my apartment. So this morning Snowy and I went to see if we could get a few shots. We went early and there were already a lot of people there.

Here are a few.

A portion of the field of sunflowers

Sunflower and bee

Two bees...

Three bees!

Some were as tall as I am

When the bees are done...

Snowy was ready to go. She would not pose. She would not look at me. It was in the upper 70's when we were there, but no shade! Home by 9:30 am.

Bright yellow sunflowers. How can those not make you smile?

Thank you for sharing, mnhtnbb!

And, why is it that when your dog is almost always right in your face, she won't cooperate when you want to take a picture? Mine does that, too!

right by the road. Every day there's a crowd of cars and picture takers.

(I've got to find mine from last year, and get a few more this year)

So you could really walk in among them. It was possible to get a bit away from other people in order to get shots.

I was there early enough that it was really evident how the flowers follow the sun. They were all directed east.

7. There were signs describing the reason for planting sunflowers is remediation of the soil

which might explain why the farm on Long Island plants them.

There were also signs about the bees and how bees that are ill will prefer the honey from sunflowers. Usually I would take a photo of the signs so I could go back and look at the information, but I was trying to keep it moving since I had the dog with me and it felt hotter than i thought it would at 9 (8 am sun time) in the morning.

Have not seen a field of sunflowers like this except in the old country. Wonderful photos of you and Snowy as well. Thanks for these!
