Related: About this forumOctober Photo Contest Ideas for Theme?
I want to get the October photo contest rolling right at the beginning of October and done by the 20th since I am having hip replacement surgery on Oct. 22nd.
I have a couple of ideas for themes, but would like people to suggest any others, and I will put up a poll in a few days to see what everyone would like to do.
Here are some ideas:
--Inspiration from words: a poem, a song, an essay, a book.
--Something old (it could be anything, a building, a tool, a vehicle, a person, a landmark of some sort...)
--Portraits (could be people or animals)
-- A color (we haven't done a color in a while and I would suggest BLUE for the Blue waving coming in November!)
--Shadows
--Best in Black & White
--Creative Editing (your chance to go crazy with whatever shot you want)
If you have thoughts about any of these ideas, please feel free to make comments. If you have other themes to suggest, please do!

(9,706 posts)It combines elements of several of your ideas, and if the skies are ever truly blue, it's in October!
O suns and skies and clouds of June,
And flowers of June together,
Ye cannot rival for one hour
October's bright blue weather;
When loud the bumblebee makes haste,
Belated, thriftless vagrant,
And goldenrod is dying fast,
And lanes with grapes are fragrant;
When gentians roll their fingers tight
To save them for the morning,
And chestnuts fall from satin burrs
Without a sound of warning;
When on the ground red apples lie
In piles like jewels shining,
And redder still on old stone walls
Are leaves of woodbine twining;
When all the lovely wayside things
Their white-winged seeds are sowing,
And in the fields still green and fair,
Late aftermaths are growing;
When springs run low, and on the brooks,
In idle golden freighting,
Bright leaves sink noiseless in the hush
Of woods, for winter waiting;
When comrades seek sweet country haunts,
By twos and twos together,
And count like misers, hour by hour,
October's bright blue weather.
O sun and skies and flowers of June,
Count all your boasts together,
Love loveth best of all the year
October's bright blue weather.

(8,258 posts)Something Old resonates (thinking of wabi-sabi influences...). Along those lines, Im also interested in viewing photographs that arent designed/contrived to be pretty or sentimental. I learn so much from fellow amateurs who document unrehearsed discoveries, moments and events.
Im also a fan of seeing familiar things in new ways. Five minutes from my front door is always a great exercise for my eye. This type of theme is less about the final product and more about the pleasure of looking and seeing (From mundane to magical...).
Just my .02 cents let the wisdom of the group and/or mnhtnbb prevail.
