(139 posts)Hi Peggy. You aren't originally from OH are you? I knew a Peggy in the Bay Area from OH years ago.
This isn't actually one I took, it's from a friend who took it rising above Mission Peak in the Bay Area on a hike right before sunset years ago
He has good camera, good lenses on it. That's actually a 100% crop of the moon in the original pic. Not anywhere near as large as your pic, I think he was using maybe a 70mm lens at the time he took it. Mine is a point & click with wide angle, non-changeable lens. So when I shoot the moon it comes out itty-bitty tiny at best, even when I zoom in on it all the way. You two got me beat on moon detail image quality

For really good quality moon photos (or any kind, for that matter) you need a first rate DSLR with a big lens. The lens I have now is Tamron 18mm--400mm. That lens got me the photo I posted here. I LOVE my lens!
They aren't cheap but for me, they're worth it.
