The THEME for the MAY PHOTO Contest is: Sacred/Inspirational Places/Spaces. It was chosen in honor and memory of those who have been victims of hate crimes in their houses of worship, or for the loss of those structures due to arson, bombing, accidental fire, or acts of nature. This is not about religion, but about the freedom to choose among the diverse ways we connect our souls to our families, our communities, our past and our yearning for meaning in life. The theme is not confined to buildings or structures. It could be of the Grand Canyon or your favorite outdoor spot for meditation. It could be a simple one room church in the country or Notre Dame. It may be a church, a cathedral, a mosque, a synagogue, a shrine or a temple. It could be Stonehenge or the Pyramids or Machu Picchu or the statues on Easter Island. If you choose a structure, it could be an interior or exterior view.
SUBMISSIONS will be open until May 19th, unless the limit of 30 entries is reached prior to that date.
The winner of the contest will host the July photo contest. (June is devoted to the SPRING Seasonal Contest.)
Color or B&W is acceptable. Light editing for cropping, color correction, saturation and exposure.
Please do NOT ask questions or make comments in the Submissions thread: please use the separate comments thread:

MAY Contest Rules
Two entries per photographer are now allowed. If Submissions are open to a second entry, there will be a separate post in the Photography group announcing that option. Please do not enter any photo that has been previously entered in another contest.
You need to post your entry in the submission thread started by the Host of a contest. Please be sure to include a "Title" for your photograph in the Subject line of your post. The submission thread is for photo entries only, no comments, no questions. The Host will start a separate thread just for comments and questions.
Once a photo is entered in a contest it is ineligible for any future contest unless the Host specifies otherwise.
The Host of the contest is the one that comes up with the Theme of their contest. They can just decide on a theme or may ask for suggestions and then run a poll to pick one of them. Either way the Theme will always be at the discretion of the person hosting the contest.
The Host also has the option of adding other rules to the contest they are hosting. An example would be no Black & White or all Black & White entries.
The Host has the option of declaring the submissions being blind (no one knows who entered which photo) or public. Should the Host op for blind submissions it is their responsibility to instruct entrants on how to get their entries to the host.
Please check the sizing on your photo before submitting it: longest side no more than 1024 px and file size < 675K If you need help posting a photograph or with image sizing, please ask in the Comments thread.
The Host is the final authority in their contests.
Submissions will be limited to 30 entries maximum unless the Photography Group votes to change the limits.
The winner of the contest agrees to host the next contest in July (or recruit someone else to host the contest), and pick the next month's theme. A star membership is required in order to be able to post polls, and any winner should agree to obtain a star if not already a star member. The host of the monthly contest cannot enter the contest they are hosting.
The Submission & Comment threads will be posted in the Photography Group. The Preliminary polls and Final Contest poll will be posted in GD per Skinners permission.
The Host of the Contest may copy and paste these rules into their submission thread or post a link to these rules into the submission thread. The Host WILL copy and paste the CONTEST LICENSE into the submission thread in its entirety. (At bottom of post)
CONTEST LICENSE:
An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph, is giving permission for that photograph to be copied to Demopedia or to a linked Gallery and included in a DU Calendar that will display the photographs entered for this contest for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted. Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.
