(19,459 posts)We spent four days in Nice, in a sixth-floor penthouse, in a really nice building on the Promenade des Anglais. Beautiful ocean views.

We weren't quite as enamored with Nice as we were with Barcelona and Rome, but it was still a lot of fun.
I'll be posting more photos from the trip, until someone tells me to stop.

They're not the same as being there.......but they're close.

(31,382 posts)The only time I've been to Nice was 1983 on my first trip to Europe. The smog in Nice was awful. I remember being nauseated from the smell of so many noxious diesel fumes.
I imagine that has changed. Hope so!

(6,251 posts)I was in Nice on a trip with my university alumni band - we take a European concert tour every two or three years. We spent two nights in Nice in a small hotel just off the Promenade and performed in a small church with a highly appreciative audience. We spent our day there wandering the town, trying our high school French on the locals, visiting the street markets and wading in the Med.
We left Nice for Genoa on the morning of July 14, 2016. That night, during the fireworks, a terrorist drove a truck down the Promenade, killing 86 and injuring 458. We knew nothing about it until we got messages the next morning, from family and friends in the States.
I loved my visit to Nice, but it's a bittersweet memory.

(19,459 posts)You are fortunate that your group had moved on by then. Some of you could easily have been out strolling the Promenade when it happened.
The security in Barcelona, Nice, and Rome was everywhere evident, especially in the tourist areas and transportation hubs. Lots of automatic weapons.
