My mom had a hibiscus plant that looked exactly like this and it was called Hulu Girl.

I think this is a 'Rose of Sharon' Hibiscus. I'm always happy to see it blooming, but also kind of sad because it is the last of the Summer Blooms to open.

Rose of Sharon is very pretty. I have a pink hibiscus I really like because its like 20 years old and blooms early and pretty much non-stop until late in the fall. I live in No. FL. where it doesn't get cold until Nov. and even then not consistently cold until Jan. Cold to this Fl native being defined as anything under 50 degrees F.
