Scored my favorite table for lunch where I could sit and watch the dock and water below the over water restaurant. These are all from my camera--not my phone.
Coming to scope it out

I hid pretty well from that damn bird!

(31,372 posts)As much as I love my downtown apartment for proximity to ballet, theatre, restaurants, etc to which I can walk, I miss the wildlife I used to see at the house in the woods in Chapel Hill. Getting to watch it here is fun.

(12,904 posts)I tried on the return journey, but they were gone. There was two, and they were standing on thin ice.
Be careful!
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,578 posts)but it's not a green heron. Google says it might be a pond heron, but those don't live in the western hemisphere. Where were these photos taken, and do you know what this bird is?
Wait, I think I've got it - American bittern (a heron relative)!

(31,372 posts)a Caribbean island off the coast of Venezuela. Green herons are quite common here.
On the other hand, I got several shots of what might be a striated heron this morning--according to my friend who lives here--which is quite uncommon on Bonaire. Apparently a visitor from South America? Striated herons have been spotted here recently.
This is the guy on the water's edge this morning.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,578 posts)It didn't look that like the ones I've seen here - too stripey - but maybe there's a lot of variations. Many herons have greenish legs, so that didn't help.

(3,300 posts)What an assortment of creatures. Are the fish gar? The crab cracks me up, perfectly cammo. Hiding from the bittern, no doubt. Looks like a fun place, thanks for sharing.
