This is not a bush--it's a tree! Here's a photo of the whole tree:

As you can see, it's taller than our second floor. And it isn't done growing yet! Good thing you asked!

Also, it's a tropical tree. It does extremely well here in Southern CA.

They're pretty common here in Southern Calif., but not so much in cooler places.

I feel very fortunate to have it right here, where I can see it every day.

Such a beautiful purple-blue in your excellent photographs! Do they have an aroma? I don’t think we can grow these in Ohio.

I don't think it has any aroma, at least none that I've detected. The bees do like them!

I'm quite sure they wouldn't grow in Ohio. It's way too cold there. Alas.

Yes, they are messy! However, we don't care about the mess.

I was lucky to have a spot for the tree between two driveways, which is where the seed pods and the spent flowers end up. Periodically they get swept!

It's high time you did! See my post #8 which shows the tree full size.

They are a tropical tree and they do very well here in Southern CA.

I just love seeing them around the city.

they are beautiful, especially when they line an entire street. The fallen blossoms can create a bit of a mess on the sidewalk....but well worth it...I was gonna say, they seem to be blooming kind of early, then realized it was already mid-May. Jesus....

I agree completely about their beauty when they line an entire street. It's amazing!

They do seem to vary as to when they'll bloom. I've seen ours blooming earlier in the year too.

It must be wonderful to live where you do, Peggy - what a beautiful tree.

(Up here in WI the Dandelions finally started blooming last week. )

I feel very lucky to live here! The gentle climate, the amazing things that grow here, and of course, the ocean!

No wonder our property values are through the roof.

Hey, even dandelions can be really pretty!

I AM very lucky, for sure.

The tree is at its most beautiful when it's flowering, and that's only for 2 to 3 months out of the year. And in the winter, it looks pretty sad: the leaves are pale and sparse.

But all that changes when the spring arrives, with new leaves and numerous buds!
