A Question that needs clarification:

What responsibility does the Winner of a Seasonal Contest have towards any subsequent contest?

I know this has been discussed but could not find the info I need.

Who can help?

Thanks!

1. IIRC, there's no responsibility at all, Peggy.

When I won the Winter Contest in March, the theme for the April contest was chosen by the winner of February's 'Repetitions' theme.

2. Thanks for your input, my dear Talitha!

I'm not sure that this is always true.

3. I have to agree with Talitha.

I won the Spring contest and had no input into the next contest EXCEPT that I had won the May contest.

It makes sense to me. The seasonal contest themes are pre set, no input is required therefore no honorarium is awarded and the Host may participate. The Monthly contests must have a theme chosen so it makes sense that a prior winner have that choice but not participate.

Just my opinion.

4. Only the winners of the themed contests (Jan, Feb, April, May, July, August, October, November)

need to select a theme for the next month in line for themed contests. The Seasonal contests that are run in March (WINTER), June (SPRING), September (SUMMER) and December (AUTUMN) are predetermined to have a season for the theme.

All contests are now run by volunteers.

The winner of a themed contest is not allowed to enter the next contest in which that person gets to select the theme, but a winner of a Seasonal contest does get to enter the next Seasonal contest. In other words, if you choose the theme, you don't get to enter that themed contest.

The Rules Thread elaborates. https://www.democraticunderground.com/103673624

5. OK. So the winner of a Seasonal contest has zero responsibilities towards other contests.

Either Themed ones or Seasonal ones.

And the winner of a Themed Contest is allowed to pick the theme for the next month coming up, the exception being if that month is a Seasonal Contest.

Have I got it right now? I hope so!

6. Yes, the winner of a themed contest picks the theme for the next

monthly contest devoted to a theme. Sometimes it is the following month, but if a Seasonal contest is scheduled for the next month, then the winner chooses the theme for the month following the Seasonal contest. For example, the winner for the August contest will choose the theme for the October contest because September was a Seasonal contest.

And yes, since we now have volunteer hosts for all the contests, the winner of a Seasonal contest has no obligations for any contests.

But, it would be wonderful if some of the winners from contests this year would volunteer to host a contest in 2021. Towards the end of October I'll post a sign up thread for volunteers to host contests next year.
