(25,393 posts)Break-even deal for the summer fire season, if I am lucky. Drive 2500 miles out, motels, gas, and food. Stay in a motel for three weeks waiting on the snow to melt to get to the lookout. Work 10-on/4-off, with motel expenses on the off days. Drive 2500 miles back home to SC, with motels, gas, and food.
I am deep in the hole. I am actually a paid volunteer. But I love it.

The comet looks especially fine.

(25,393 posts)Can't believe I only got about two minutes of shooting on Neowise. So I am constantly trying to improve the few shots that I got. Used some luminosity masking to enhance the comet and stars on this one.
Love your stuff on FB. And I absolutely LOVE Ben's knowledge, wit, and historical/musical/scientific alacrity. Perfect couple maybe, along with me and Dr. DemoTex!

(149,588 posts)I recently bought the 2021 version of Paint Shop Pro and a good friend is teaching me how to use it. I hope to improve my photos a whole lot!
Thanks for the kind words about me and my husband! I'll pass them along.

(26,403 posts)Love the 21/75 route around Stanley. Used to be my favorite way of getting to/from Boise from the Yellowstone area. Lots of great areas to take detours.

(25,393 posts)About 16 miles outside of Stanley, ID-21 makes a sharp bend where it crosses Cape Horn creek. In that bend is a turnoff on a gravel road to the right. That is the way to Pinyon Peak. It is 10 miles of fairly good gravel road (FS-008), to the infamous FS-172 road. Then it is 18 miles of Hell Road. First time I drove it, that 18 miles took me 2.5 hours. Total driving from Challis to Pinyon Peak, by way of Stanley, was about four hours (90 miles, or so).
