Peek-a-boo



A combination of on camera and darkroom techniques form this image.

So it's pouring outside and I see this heron working the shoreline. His head would pop up every once in a while as he was hidden being lower than the top of the bank.

I am inside shooting through a screen. Focusing on the birds head and using a large aperture, the screen, foreground and water are all out of focus. The screen in fact acts as a soft filter thus the herons head, though in focus, was not super sharp.

In the darkroom I cropped, increased saturation (way more than I normally would), increased the contrast and did some sharpening.
