Catching the moon as it emerges from behind the mountains is something I cannot do. Our mountains have too much stuff around them to allow it, and I can't get above it the way you did here.

This is just gorgeous! It looks like the moon is in The Belt of Venus. Amazing catch!

Thank you.

I praised him two years ago and he immediately stopped taking pics. (Doesn't like praise or attention). So glad he may be coming back . He took his good camera up there, so fingers crossed.

It is beautiful there.

I can remember the last time I was there, I drove and drove and drove and Montana just kept on coming.

Not only the sky is big. The state is also.

Bozeman has had a special place in my heart, ever since my husband and I spent some time there 2 years ago. It was supposed to be just a quick stop to visit the Museum of the Rockies on a trip through several different states, but it ended up being more like a couple of weeks. We were about to leave town when our car's transmission decided to blow up,and it took forever to get a new transmission shipped from.... wherever they had to get it from. While we were waiting, we rented a car and drove back and forth to Yellowstone several times in addition to exploring a lot more of Montana than we had planned. It was gorgeous, and this lovely photo is bringing it all back.

The camera does not know that the while dot is the subject, so it tries to get the black sky to be a nice medium gray, thus overexposing everything

If your camera has this focus feature, tap on the moon to set it as the focus target. This will often reset the auto-exposure to be based on the focus target.

Otherwise, switch to manual exposure. The moon is in full sunlight, so you need to use noon-time exposures.
Try these settings as starters, adjust to taste.
DSLR = ISO 200, f/8, 1/250
phone = ISO 100, f/1.4, 1/2000

I can definitely handle the tapping on the moon tip. The f-stop configurating may be beyond my competence. I need to take a phone photography class. But I appreciate the info!

To me, beautiful land is full of crops sustaining human life. That place looks like it could only sustain life if men could live by eating rocks.

The worst to me, but some people love it.

Yes, give me trees and water and beautiful vegetation!
