(7,416 posts)I couldn't wait to get away from the snow & the gray dreary winters.
We're starting the year off right with sunny skies & a high of 81 here in Florida. I'll probably go for a walk on the beach later & get my toes in the ocean.
Happy New Year!

(25,183 posts)to another land and nation reminds me of my hometown, Erie, PA. Erie is in the northwestern corner of PA, on Lake Erie, sandwiched between Buffalo, NY and Cleveland, OH.
There is an arm of land that curves out into the lake at Erie, forming a natural harbor. This "arm" is Presque Isle peninsula, which has several beaches on the lake side.
As a child, I could look out across Lake Erie from a beach on a clear day and see the faintest tip of land that was in Ontario, Canada. (It helped that I am farsighted and this stretch of the lake was one of the narrowest point between the two nations.)
It felt awesome to my childhood mind that I could see across such a large body of water to another nation.

(745 posts)Just gorgeous, thank you. It doesn't look like any U.S. coast that I have seen. So it's taken Ireland - makes sense.

(11,862 posts)More clouds moving in to take up the clear sky, but there has still been some sunshine and brightness. I never really see New Year's Day as anything special...but this year, I do.
I realize we are still in the same places we were yesterday, but it feels like a day, or a year, reborn. I feel very hopeful and cheerful today. I hope you are all having the same kind of start to your year!
