got an email from smugmug last night . (on a friday night of a 3 day weekend) currently i pay $150 which gives me the chance to sell the occasional photo for profit. smugmug announced that when i renew my new price will be $250 a year. a 66% increase. My subscription just renewed so i dont have to pay the new rate for close to a year.
but that doesnt matter. there are other services out there. Im testing out zenfolio right now. i just started a 2 week trial. Im in the process of transfering my images to them automatically. Ill let people here know how it works.
if it goes smoothly ill stop uploading to smugmug and start uploading to zenfolio instead. and when my year is up ill cancel smugmug.
They way they announced the price hike and teh amount of teh hike reminds me of netflix shootign themselves in the foot last year.

(592 posts)This year as my subscription was coming to an end and I was really strapped for cash they actually lowered my cost by 30% when I told them my situation. They were very helpful and I was able to keep the level of service the same at a lower price that I had originally paid.
Anyway I have a year now to see what happens and I will be interested in how your transfer goes since I have a lot of pictures and videos on smugmug and I would be devastated should I lose them somehow.
Thanks for the post..

(25,592 posts)The used to have only three.

I started with them eons ago with Basic. They have never raised my rates.
I have 17GB of pictures on Smugmeg, and recently upgraded to Power, which is all I need.
I'm sold on them.
The very few times I have had problems, they were quick to address and remedy the problem.

(46,436 posts)I've had an account there for several years, and I have a bit of a following, even though I don't sell a whole lot of pictures. I like the format and they've always been helpful and prompt in answering technical questions.
I have a business license so it's just a bigger write-off on my tax return.
