How does the selling part work? Do you upload the maximum resolution images and the site resizes them for sale?
I assume that you decide on the pricing. Does the site do the resizing and any other adjusting or is that up to you? I'm curious because once I do get a regular job again - hopefully soon - I'd like to try selling some of my better work to make a few extra bucks once in awhile. I also think it would be kind of nice to know that my photographs are out there being enjoyed by people.

as far as i know i set the prices. I upload max rez images and the customer crops the image depending on what size hes purchasing. I just got done with watermarking everything. (i hope )

so far so good

it was pretty easy.
so far im liking zenfolio. my trial still has 11 days to go but im leaning to switching. Im waiting to here if smugmug changes their new price structure. My smugmug account doesnt expire for a while so ill probably just keep it and let it expire when it does.

Some very nice images there.

I like the train collection. (Some of the HDR trains are a bit too radioactive for my taste, but I really like the B&W ones.)

I have many questions. A few are -

For your bird photos - are they quick, reflex shots or do you sometimes work from a blind? They are wonderful.
Do you shoot some of your infrared on film and scan? On digital with an infrared filter?
Is photography your occupation, passion or both? Self taught or formally trained?
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

the majority of teh bird shots are out in the open. some are from a blind, especially the woodpeckers, hummingbirds and buntings but the rest are from out in the open

My infrared is all shot with a converted digital camera. I have a d70 with an enhanced IR filter and a panasonic lumix p&s with a standard (720nm) filter

Photography is my passion. Im self taught

a woodchuck would chuck 42 cords of wood seeing as 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything

about the site, especially the clean format of it but what kind of photographic site is it? Is it a personal site for friends and family to see your work or is it a commerce site to sell your work or is it a portfolio, honestly it really isn't all that clear.

If it's a commerce site then it needs to be curated a bit especially the personal stuff, like the vacation photos have to go, that's not to say that some of the vacation photos don't have commercial value but they need to be moved into another category. When I view a commercial site I have a bit of a pet peeve with too many photos, a lot of photographers are guilty of it. Treat your online gallery like you were having a brick and mortar show, you just can't put everything on the wall, just show the best.

Zenfolio is slower than Smugmug to load, for me, at times annoyingly so??? I have no idea why that would be. Well, Comcast is my only reasonable option around here and it is a bit crappy, admittedly. It should be faster than it is, ugh. I guess they make it kind of crappy to try to make you want to get business class or something.

Just thought I would mention that in case anyone else has these issues.
