(51,569 posts)area are full of them right now. The trees line the streets on both sides. When I first moved here I always mispronounced their name.

(149,534 posts)The name is rather exotic and very easy to mispronounce!
But their beauty is inescapable.

(11,682 posts)The leaves of Paulownia tomentosa are huge elephant ears, whereas the Jacaranda has small leaflets on brackets. The Paulownia is cold hardy and has escaped and found in much of Appalachia. Jacaranda seems to be tropical and pretty tender. Two question: Does Jacaranda escape and go "wild?' And, secondly, what fragrance does the flowers have? The Paulownia is sweet and vanilla-like.

(149,534 posts)I have never seen Jacarandas in the wild and so I have no idea if they spread that way. They do have large, disk-shaped seed pods, and I believe that those are how they spread.
These flowers have no detectable fragrance.
And these trees are definitely not cold tolerant, since they are tropical.

(149,534 posts)It's a tree, and they get pretty big. Ours is as tall as our 2 story house, and there's another one not far away that's even taller and bigger!
