But that all said, there are a group of us ladies that row in the wee hours of the morning, and there's this heron that is in the same spot every morning. One of these days I'm going to take my camera and ask the ladies to either slow down or stop for a photo op.
Please don't hold your breath as we are really dedicated rowers and sometimes stopping is not an option!

Herons apparently will eat, or try to eat, almost anything. He picked up that snake a few times. It was strange.
And yes, they do tend to hang out at the same places a lot. Hubby and I named a place on the creek "heron point" because it had no other name, and because it is a favorite fishing spot, and because I happened to get a photo of a heron there that caught the light right and hangs in his office. There are generally a few of them around heron point. We certainly don't lack for herons either in Memphis or at the Tennessee River. However, this is my first heron/snake combo. I wasn't even sure what the heck it was until I got home.

(15,812 posts)Take a look--the first time I have had these two creatures together in the same photo. Naturally I didn't even see the green heron until I got home.
