Tamron departed NBC after losing her "Today" time slot with the much-ballyhooed signing of Megyn Kelly, but she didn't have to wait for Kelly's failure there to view the morning shake-up as the network's mistake.

"Megyn's success or not, I already knew they made the wrong choice when I (walked out) the door … so I would never measure myself by her success or perceived lack thereof," she told the Television Critics Association during a Monday panel promoting her new nationally syndicated daytime talk show, "Tamron Hall" (Sept. 9).

"I didn't know what could come after leaving that situation. I'm glad and fortunate this is the end result," says Hall, who acknowledged the loss of her co-hosting spot in the third hour of "Today," which led to her departure from NBC and MSNBC in early 2017, felt like "a gut punch."
