The season so far has been great. And I just loved seeing a certain character back 🙂

When they brought in Captain Jack I thought that was going to be the big reveal of the episode, and when he started going on about the "lone cyberman" I thought aha! Ruth is going to end up being the cyberman. And then she turned out to be the Doctor! Crazy.

My son (he's 11) and I were discussing theories about how this new Doctor happened. We decided:

1. She can't be pre-first Doctor, because her Tardis is a police box, and the Tardis wasn't a police box until the first Doctor.

2. She can't be a regeneration after the second Doctor because she doesn't know what a sonic screwdriver is, and every Doctor from the second had one of those.

So... either it's a parallel universe Doctor (likely) or a future Doctor (less likely).

I'm leaning towards the former as well.

Spoilers...

I do kinda think there may be a parallel/alternate universe thing going on. The Master didn’t seem to fit into the Master’s history as we know it. Ruth doesn’t seem to fit in the Doctor’s history as we know it. And Jack’s moments were not firmly in any time or place. There was no opportunity for him to pin things down. All vagued up enough that multiverse stuff could be at play. Also, interestingly, I saw it pointed out that neither Ruth nor the woman who tells us she’s from Gallifrey refer to themselves as Time Lords.

I liked it. It had some twists that I wasn't expecting, like the existence of this new Doctor! I don't know what to make of that yet. I loved seeing Capt. Jack again and am looking forward to his reunion with the Doctor. And that kiss! Poor Graham. Everyone just assumes he's the Doctor. I heard a rumor that Doctor 10 will be appearing this season. I wonder if that's true?
