The Americans on FX

Anyone else catch the premiere of this show? What did you think? I think it has great potential. Loved the 80s retro stuff and 80s music! Starting off to Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" the way they did definitely grabbed my attention.

I think it was well done.
Tusk grabbed my attention too.
Haven't heard it in a long time.
Also that song in the bar at the beginning.

Have to say that as a fan of Brothers and Sisters seeing Matthew Rhys (Kevin from Brothers and Sisters) being a total bad ass was really something.

We watched it tonight, and didn't realize it was two hours, which is a great sign in my book. I really enjoyed it. The first song wasn't "Tusk" though, it was "Harden my Heart" by Quarterflash! When I heard "Tusk", I immediately remembered your post here. LOL! Too much TV, too much DU!

that got to me. At that point, I was sold! LOL

ETA: And yeah, I hear ya on that bloated TV viewing schedule. We try to be selective, and there's a lot of stuff I won't watch, but there's actually a lot of really good TV drama out there these days--enough to give us at least one show a night (except Saturday), and sometimes two or three. Sunday nights are ridiculously bloated.

I watched the first episode and was shocked to see John Boy (Richard Thomas)! Then I watched the preview for episode 2 and was also shocked (again) to see Mags Bennett (Margo Martindale)!

Well anyways, I liked the first episode. It did take me till a little more than half way through the episode before it caught my interest. I've got the second episode on DVR so i'll get back to you after I watch that one too, lol.

We'll see if it survives the first year. I think it has a better chance of renewal given it's on cable instead of a network.

I generally have 3 TV shows for the Fall/Winter/Spring seasons and 3 shows in the Summer season

I asked them on the first night of class if they had watched the show (it had just premiered). They both said they had and liked it very much.

Tonight, one of them mentioned it again as we were leaving class, saying he was really enjoying it. Then, he said, "It's very accurate." Ha!

Wonder how he knows that...

It would be fascinating to talk with them about the program. Take them out for a few beers and see what you can get out of them? I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.

They both speak very good English. It's a philosophy course.

Yeah, I'd love to talk to them about it more, and maybe I will be able to do that. They are both great guys. Smart, and warm and friendly.

It really is a good show! It makes me wonder about "today" and the world of spying. I mean back then, there was no internet, no quick way to check IDs, no real fingerprint analysis, and the like.

There are some major events they have mentioned (like Reagan getting shot) where you pretty much know around the time frame the story should be happening. They have to be careful not to get too repetitive or people will get bored. Maybe they have a plan in terms of the plot to keep it going. We'll have to see I guess.
