Related: About this forumI just don't like Jeremy Piven in this role...
Now that Call the Midwife is done, I decided to watch Mr. Selfridge on PBS. It's an interesting storyline so far but I think Piven overacts or something. Or underacts, lol. He's just not believable as the main character. I feel like I can hear him struggle with his lines.
I can't put my finger on it. Anyone else watch this series?

(29,149 posts)We might give it another try at some point because it might have just been a mood thing, but the show as a whole just wasn't working for us. I can't blame all of it on Piven, but I agree with you that something seemed off about him. I don't think he's incapable of subdued/subtle, but it's weird seeing him spending so much time at it.

(16,334 posts)it picked up a little after the first one. It's nowhere near as good as Call the Midwife but I'll stick it out.

(103,856 posts)I think Pivens will grow on you.. I liked the series and the other characters will grow on you too if you stay with it..
The real Selfridge was a Barnum & Bailey style of business tycoon,.. He was ALL about bluster & bravado and breaking the mold of the stuffy British style of selling back then

(18,639 posts)Harry was pretty out there, gambling, womanizing, etc.
The other roles/characters are much more likeable. It grows on you. Well, it did on me!
