While still really good, and I thoroughly enjoyed the portrayal of the Russian president, the season was weaker than the first 2, IMHO.

Regardless it's one of the best shows on 'TV' w/o a doubt, Spacey & Wright are at the top of their game, and all the supporting cast is uniformly excellent (though the book writer, the dude from Boardwalk Empire ... lets just say he was better in BE than he is in HoC).

Spacey is one of the few people who could play such a vile character and somehow have you not completing hating his guts ... he's just SUCH a good actor you can't entirely hate Frank Underwood. It's really quite a bit like 'Boss' in that regard ... though I dislike Kelsey Grammer's politics (as we all do), he's a top notch actor, and the two shows have a GREAT deal in common ...

In the case of both shows, even if the show wasn't as great as it is overall it'd still be worth watching just to see him (like, say, Blacklist), but fortunately he's not the only one worth watching ... the acting and writing is really, really great overall in both series.

If you like HoC, you should definitely check out 'Boss' (on Netflix, or at least it was last year) ... bear in mind though it was cancelled prematurely so it ends with a rather unsatisfying conclusion (much like The Borgias, which is equally worth watching) and both shows feature 'Democrats' ... who are FAR from the type that 'we' would like to see ... but both are still quality viewing.

Now ... I can't wait for season 3 of both Orange (is the new), and Orphan Black.

BTW, if you not checked out Orphan Black ... you are SEVERELY missing out, and should catch up on Seasons 1 & 2 (somewhere) before the 3rd starts in April. You will seriously be FLOORED by the performance of Tatiana Maslany in this series ... and the story is a humdinger to boot.

Lastly, one thing that's kinda lame about this new season of HoC is that Frank is supposedly a Democrat, promoting a federal Jobs program, yet goes out of his way to proclaim it's a 'replacement' for Social Security, and that SC has outlived it's usefulness and that what everyone NEEDS instead ... is jobs. Which makes NO F***ING SENSE (esp. for a Dem) and annoys the shit out of me. You don't even GET Social Security unless you've paid into it i.e. worked a job most of your life ... and that's just for starters. They should've had Frank going after military waste or corporate subsidies for the extra cash for America Works.

Either that, or made him a damn Republican from teh beginning.

If you're not intrigued after that opener ... I'll be amazed. I've yet to meet someone who wasn't.

But keep in mind that, as GREAT as it starts, it just continues to get more and more badass damn near every episode, esp. over the first 5 or 6.

Thank me later
