Survivor Worlds Apart- Episode 4 and 5 (double episode) discussion thread

Last night was a big "double episode" airing two weeks of survivor at once. I liked it a lot. After the predictability of Nina's exit, this one went back to crazed survivor play, and the always loved tribal switch. "Drop your buffs!"

After getting rid of Nina, team tree-hugger felt a lot better. Will realizes he is the next one out, but he felt good about the new tribe. things looked great over at the blue collar tribe. Mike and and Rodney finally getting along. Dan found a snake and Mike killed and cooked it. they got Rodney to eat the snake, which was funny. Rodney and Mike had cooled things off between them, but Rodney was just waiting to jump on another person.

Then we had the first Reward-only challenge. It was for the chicken coop with 3 egg-laying hens and a rooster. Second place gets a dozen eggs. It was the old caller in a tower leading blindfolded survivors through obstacles challenge. Without Nina, the hippies we a well oiled machine. They just rocked and won easily. But there was a big blow up because Kelly got hit with a falling tray and was cut badly. But with blood drippign down her body, she got a bandage and kept on going. But it was not enough and the corporates beat out blue collar for second place.

Joe decided to off one of the chickens to cook for Will's birthday dinner. Jenn is a vegetarian and had no interest in this. She preferred to keep it for eggs. So instead, she left camp to be alone, but really hunted and found the idol.

Back at blue collar, the loss must have stirred things up. Rodney made more sexist remarks and Lindsey was having none of it. He told her women need to hold themselves to a higher standard. While he was clearly wrong, Linsday handled it wrong. Instead of using it as a moment to paint him in a bad light, she kept jumping on the issue. Had she made her point and left it alone, it could have done more damage to him.

The corporate tribe cooked up their eggs and had a talk while Shirin and Max were skinny dipping. Carolyn pushed hard for Max to go. this was important later in the second hour.

The first immunity only challenge was another physical and agility dominating test. The tribemates were hooked to a rope maze to retrieve a ball that they then had to maneuver through a puzzle while balancing on a beam. Team hippie won, based on Joe's balance and skill at the puzzle. White collar was looking bad as Max seemed to think he could just force the ball through a lot of spaces at a time, but in the end, he made up a lot of time and won. Blue collar went to their first tribal, where Lindsey and Rodney were at risk. Rodney and Dan seemed to be happy to oust Lindsey. Mike and Kelly were clearly together. I thought Rodney shot himself with his rants against women at tribal, but Mike and Kelly split the votes so that if there was a idol, they would decide who was ousted. After a revote Lindsey was voted out.

Hour 2 started off GREAT.
Sierra returned to camp unsure why she got votes and upset about her buddy leaving. Dan and Rodney proceeded to tell her everything she did wrong. BIG MISTAKE guys. Of course, the tribes merge the next morning. Jeff tells them to pick new buffs.

The new Blue collor tribe is Dan, Sierra, Mike, Rodney, Tyler, Joaquin, and Joe. Poor Joe is all alone, and there are 4 old blue collars. but Dan and Rodey's treatment of Sierra may flip that to 3 old blue collars and 4 newcomers.

Over at team Red (can;t find the name)- Its 3 no collars, 3 white collars, and Kelly. The imbalance is clear. Will and Max are the only guys, and they are hardly powerhouses for physical challanges. Haley, Jenn, Carolyn, Shirin and Kelly are all going to have to play big to compete.

It showed in the first reward challenge, which was launching balls with a catapult to their fellow tribemates who had to catch them with lacrosse nets. Blue collar dominated and won kitchen gear and a meal of sausages. I saw the funny here with the guys all winning a sausage party.

Once Team red got to camp, the scramble started. Shirin seemed to convince Kelly to join her group with Max and Carolyn. Kelly seems to like them better than the hippies led by Jenn. As a cop, this made sense to me. Max then rocked this plan by getting stung by stingrays in his feet in one of his naked swims. Lifeguard Jenn told him to soak his feet in the drinking water pot, but his planters wart grossed out a few people. I don;t fault Max for this, but he could have played it better.

At the blue collar tribe, Sierra immediately let the other know she was looking to jump. Mike told Dan he had to apologize to Sierra for criticizing her after tribal. Dan is not really good with words so his apology only made things worse. Sierra is gone from that alliance.

At the IC, it was all one-sided. Blue collar just kicked butt. Team red had to go to tribal. Kelly had to decide who to join, the three former white collars, or the former hippies. But when Carolyn made it clear she was not with Max and Shirin, Kelly had no choice. Max never saw it coming and Shirin looked devastated.

I love this part, with all the jumping around. Its amazing that people who claim to be fans still forget the social game.

In the game of "Survivor," class distinctions fall away. Nature overwhelms nurture. While alliances do get small groups through to the end, it's usually a couple weaker players glomming on to a strongest player. And luck, depending on the challenges.

I like Joe and Jenn getting to the end of tribes and working together. Young, strong, smart. Which is my personal curse on them!

I don;t think he is cutthroat enough. Jenn certainly is. If she can use his physical strength (not that she is weak by any means, her and Kelly are probably stronger than some of the guys).

Jenn is probably one of the better players, but if she is not careful they will see that and oust her.

Loved both episodes....Surprised that they got rid of Max and not Shirin, especially from a raw strength perspective, but maybe they'll figure she'll do herself in all by herself...

Loved the instant karma of Jenn getting the idol by avoiding the killing of the chicken...

I really like the mix up of the tribes, no-collar was going to get decimated if they hadn't merged, and it'll be interesting to see how much further the blue-collar alliance lasts, especially seeing as how Dan thinks he's such a great player, and Boston Rob Paaaaht Two just can't seem to stop running his mouth...

I want to go on record right now...I think Tyler is a dark horse and could go far in this game....physical strength, useful around camp, and good strategy...(watch, i just jinxed him) i'm not sure who else could go the distance yet, but he's my pick for the moment...

I can not take that accent!!

I was hoping he would go, but I think they made the right call, not knowing the merge was next.

Are NCAA games due to preempt Survivor?

Anyway, Shirin sails obliviously on, this time with her whistling demonstration. Isn't she supposed to be an executive which would involve, y'know, working with people? Also loved Dan insisting he knew how to talk to women, having lived so much longer than Mike, then proceeding to "apologize" to Sierra by telling her it was actually her own fault. Shrewd, Dan! You sure knows how to handle da womenfolk! I actually hope both of them are around awhile, their complete & utter doofusness is boundlessly entertaining.

Was surprised they let the new tribes be so lopsided, with one mostly men and one mostly women, then the first challenge being such a physical one! I know it was random, but it seems the producers would want to avoid the imbalance.

I like Joe a lot. Carolyn is a riot. I'm pulling for Jenn & Kelly too. I like this season!

I also think, like truebrit, that Tyler is a dark horse who could win it. This was fun to have 2 like that.

Those men are clueless. It makes me so uncomfortable to hear them speak about women the way that they do but I also do know there are a lot of guys like that out in the world. Yuck. Still, at least creepy Vince is still gone. Can you imagine what he would be doing with these guys? Max really did not have a clue about being IN Survivor did he. Shirin is the most annoying person! I would have a hard time doing it but she would be good to take to the end. What a nut.

Loved the challenges, they were all fun to watch. I hate that they give them live animals to kill for food. I know it makes sense but as a vegetarian myself I can hardly stand it. Jenn was really smart to go away, a perfect excuse to look for the idol. I am so happy this one is turning out like this. I would have loved the smaller tribes maybe one more week but this will be interesting since we do already have a clue about who they basically are. Last Survivor almost did me in, do not care for it in the long run. This is much more fun
