Related: About this forumWas going to watch 20 20 tonight with Leah Remini
She was going to talk about her experiences with Scientology. If anyone sees a place to view the interview, pm me, please. I went to the ABC website, but 20 20 appears to be on HULU. I'm not a member.
Really wanted to see it and just plain forgot.
Ordered her book though...Troublemaker.

(48,955 posts)I think there are many layers to be learned that are not unrelated to understanding the techniques of propaganda, fear, cognitive dissonance, in-group/out-group dehumanization that are used by Co$cientology - that are increasingly used to appeal to the far right by Faux and the rwmedia machine.

Have you discovered Tonyortega.org it is an awesome source for learning more.
There are some ex Scientologists who post some very interesting pieces about how some of the undue influence is created and maintained. On a gut level, beyond that it is awful and needs to be in the sunlight, I think there are greater lessons to be learned not by the methods - but by intended effects.
Edited - website is .org not .com

(88,117 posts)Also just finished Troublemaker...wow. She spares no one and nothing. Very blunt. She's outspoken but that's okay with me. I like people like that. Book is hard to put down.

(48,955 posts)but read it in a day.
Then I saw the linked video which explains the program that she was sent to complete in Florida. The speaker is an ex who both has administered the program (called the Truth Run Down), and has been required to be the subject of the program. Mind blowing. http://mncriticalthinking.com/tag/truth-rundown/
There is a poster there, nic 'mockingbird' who is a recent ex, who as part of his healing is delving deeply into academic books on issues related to mind control, deep persuasion, inducing hypnotic states (in ways I had never considered), who shares his readings and synopses. On more than one occasion I have found these reads very interesting and applicable to what we have witnessed in the period of extreme political polarization over the past 30+ years.
Let me know if you dive in - as I would love to discuss/debrief this with someone also looking at it through a lens of immersion in political news following over a number of years. Unrelated topics - but definitely transferable ahas.
