not sure where to put this, but anybody that is interested in a southern AZ meet-up/MFM memorial, I have finally committed to a date.
had to do something soon or the weather was going to be too hot (probably already is) and I can procrastinate forever.
Sunday May 4th, which was also his birthday.
First part out at Picacho State Park, around 8 am. If we get a group for this, we should probably meet just a bit earlier down at Stuckey's and do a car pool up to the park as it is $7/car.
Main Event - 11:30 at Guadalajara Grill for girly drinks, snacks and stories.
I made reservations but if I could get a little better head count I will amend them as Sunday brunch time may be busy.

My spirit will certainly be there, however...
As will his, I have no doubt.

(95,337 posts)it has already arrived at UMC! I think it shipped out of Phx. The blu ray and cables are apparently on their way from Tennessee
I will do an update for that in the Lounge when it is all complete. (the hospital is going to have a plaque made to mount near the TV acknowledging the gift!)
I am working on a little essay to send for somebody to read - it will have his picture and talk about the DU Lounge and how much everybody meant to him and vicaversa.

(68,644 posts)glad you worked it out, and all with a plaque, to boot.
If there are further funds needed please let me know.
And do post a pic after installation.
Thanks for all you did and all you do!

(8,492 posts)I'd love to make it to the first part, but it's over 3 hours from here. Unless I can swing a motel.

(55,007 posts)I think the wind should be gone. The air after crossing the Gila was shit yesterday but the dust should settle some tomorrow and Saturday.
Folk Festival (free) going on this weekend downtown if you are staying around.

(8,492 posts)I wish we could stick around. I love Tucson and would really like to spend a weekend down there. But, that's the price I have to pay for marrying a musician. Very few free weekends.

(33,023 posts)I'm a little concerned about the wind on I-10,
but in the morning the problem is reduced.
I'm assuming that you mean the Guadalajara Grill at 1220 E Prince Road,
and not the one at 750 N Kolb Road.
Kali
(55,007 posts)and the old Stuckey's with the Dairy Queen, not that new Bowlins junk store.
I'm driving an alien green Kia Soul. May have my "the Thing" bumper sticker on finally but you know what I look like so I will see you there. Thank you.

Friends and family of James P. Swope have scheduled a memorial service for him on Sunday, May 4. Swope, who died in January, hosted "Jim's Joke Joint" on KXCI 91.3 FM in the early 2000s and was a founding member of the Democracy Initiative, which pushed for changes in the management structure at the community radio outlet.
More information about the service is available through rememberingmfm@yahoo.com.
For our friend. And all our friends.
