Related: About this forumOn deadline day, AZ voter registration site gets 10 times normal traffic
PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) -
On the final day to register to vote before the November election, Arizona's registration website crashed under heavy traffic, signaling 2016 could be one for the registration record books.
The voter registration portal on ServiceArizona.com briefly shut down Monday morning when it got 10 times the normal volume of traffic, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, which operates the website.
Final registration numbers will not be available until Tuesday, but the online portal has never seen such heavy traffic on the final day, said ADOT spokesperson Timothy Tait. The website has accepted online voter registrations since 2002.
According to data from the Arizona Secretary of State's Office, the top three days for voter registrations all fell on the "deadline day" before a presidential election.
ADOT worked with IBM to increase the capacity of the site and improve performance, Tait said.
Monday was Columbus Day, a state and federal holiday that prompted the closure of Motor Vehicle Division offices and U.S. Post Offices. The closures meant Arizonans had fewer places to register in-person, and some reported problems trying to register online Monday morning.
"It was frustrating," said Adri Encisco. "On the ninth time, it finally went through, but that was after about 45 minutes."
Arizonans have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday to register to vote or update their registration for the General Election. The mail-in deadline was Saturday, Oct. 8.

(6,855 posts)5. Arizona is currently virtually tied, within 0.5 points when all recent polling is averaged.
Usually all that massive extra registration is in favor of the Democratic party.
I think Hillary has a decent chance to take AZ!
