Daylight-saving time could end in California

http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article62292437.html

Springing forward and falling back would be reserved for gymnasts under a California bill seeking to eliminate daylight saving time.

If you’ve ever awoken an hour early, showed up to work an hour late or groaned at having to reset all your clocks because of the biannual time shifts, Assemblyman Kansen Chu, D-San Jose, feels your pain.

“I heard some complaints last year from some of the senior citizens (in my district) and their care providers who say this one-hour difference really impacted their lives,” Chu said.

So he did some research. The results cast daylight-saving time in a negative light. There’s evidence it’s correlated with an uptick in workplace accidents, he said. There’s evidence that it does not limit energy consumption: after instituting daylight saving time in 2006, one study found, Indiana actually used more electricity.

Hawai'i does just fine without it.

It gets really dark in Seattle in the winter, and I'm often going home in the pitch darkness that starts around 4:00. I don't feel safe.

We've done it before, and it saved energy but I guess too many of those Republicans hate that.

So you have to adjust your weekend. Most get a day to adjust on Sunday. This is silly.

I wish we had it year round..extra hours of sunshine are most welcome year-round not only for 6 months. and stop with the whining about setting the cocks forward.....grow up already. i am a senior and love the extra hours of sunlight so do not blame complaints on the whole of the elderly either.

As such it is extremely far west as far as the line goes.

It is also further south than California on average. And Arizona is much hotter than California and as such people would rather be out later when it is cooler.

is that people back East have a hard enough time with the time change as it is. If they "spring ahead" and we don't, all of a sudden they're four hours ahead of us instead of three.

dealing with time zones:

As we sailed across the Atlantic, the ship moved through one time zone after another. At each new time zone, the ship’s clock was forwarded one hour at 2 a.m., and the crew lost one hour of sleep. In a naïve and karmic sort of way, I thought six months later when we headed back toward the United States we would gain one hour of sleep with each passing time zone. To my astonishment on our return voyage, the ship’s clock was turned back one hour at noon, which allowed the ship’s crew to perform an extra hour of work. Oh well — so much for sleeping in.
