A call for same-day registration and open primaries.

In response to the voter suppression in NY/AZ, let's call on our state officials to open the primaries. Even though unaffiliated voters can vote, opening the primaries would allow all voters to vote, preventing voters from being turned away or not counting their vote. Plus, same-day registration with the ability to change your voter status on the spot would also benefit voter's rights and ability to vote. Let's get this message to as many CA residents as possible!

No. It already allows "unaffiliated" voters to vote in any party primary of their choosing. SunSeeker Apr 2016 #9

The SCOTUS struck down CA's blanket primary in 2000 in a 7-2 decision. That decision called into question open primaries, and stated unequivocally that political parties have the right to hold primaries that best suit the ends of being a political party.

"In a 7-2 opinion, the Court held that California's blanket primary violates a political party's First Amendment right of association. "Proposition 198 forces political parties to associate with -- to have their nominees, and hence their positions, determined by -- those who, at best, have refused to affiliate with the party, and, at worst, have expressly affiliated with a rival. A single election in which the party nominee is selected by nonparty members could be enough to destroy the party." The Court found that Proposition 198 takes away a party's "basic function" to choose its own leaders and is functionally "both severe and unnecessary."

We must ensure that voter suppression isn't happening in this state. We need to give every voter the right to vote.

If I'm not mistaken, thousands were thrown off voter rolls by error in two states so far within the last month. We need to avoid this potential disaster at ALL cost. This is a non-partisan debate, it's really a horrible precedent to sweep these issues under the rug like it's some kind of an annoyance.

But why should we wait until something potentially destructive happens. Taking precautions to protect the right to vote should be a top priority. Imagine if you were taken off a voter roll or they switched your party affiliation. Can't imagine you'd would be happy about being denied the right to vote.

Allowing voters who have identify themselves as members of OTHER PARTIES to vote in the Democratic Primary is inviting ratfucking.
