Shows the entire state colored green to yellow. That's good to see. Hopefully it will bring a lot of water.

Stay safe.

4. A lot of water

but not much snow.

Don't get me wrong, I love the rain we have been getting, everything around me is turning green.

But the truth is that the rain we are getting now mostly runs off the already saturated ground. The water for summer should be in the sierra mountains, but it is too warm to snow except that the highest elevations.

With that storms we have been getting we should see feet of snow pack and it's mostly rain. Rain that melts whatever snow might have fallen already.

Oh well, welcome to a warming world.

12. The rain actually adds to the water content of the snow

Granted, it melts snow at the lower elevations, but that is snow that would normally melt in a few days anyway. Monthly measures of the snows at the higher elevations are done by weight, not feet.

That being said, it's generally accepted by knowledgeable people that we will have more rain and less snow in the state for the foreseeable future, and we need to increase our storage capacities to capture it. These same people also know the purse string are now tied tight in a Gordian knot with an administration that hates our fair state. Spite, pure spite.

5. Raining heavily in Sac now. No thunder or lightning, but the rain is nice.

Looks like your storm is headed over toward Modesto. Ours formed between Vacaville and Davis, then joined with the storm up around Yuba City to make a larger storm cell. Hope it lasts a while! I haven't slept a wink... maybe the rain will help.

6. There's been an unusual number of thunderstorms here too.

It's very unusual for Ohio in Winter.

It's mostly the typical "overcast blah" around here, though. Gray sky from horizon to horizon, so overcast that even cloud details can't be seen.

I watched an episode of "Alone" (History Channel) recently, a survival show/contest filmed in Patagonia this season. One of the contestants was crying about the lack of direct sunlight he was getting at his site. He wasted calories climbing the mountain behind him just to get direct sunshine! Wow. Try living in Ohio, dude.

It's been raining steadily in San Luis Obispo. SLOWeather.com shows we've had almost 2 inches of rain so far today with more heavy rain and showers projected for the next few days. Our season to date rainfall is 20.4" which is almost double the normal seasonal rainfall for this time of year.
