I came home to my new, shiny SCE Smartmeter. WTF is this thing?

They installed them today all over the neighborhood. Now my meter has the Internets or some shit? They are gonna let me log on to their website and read how many kilowatts my 42" is using, that right?

What do you guys know about these?
