There are quite a few places that give you nice sunsets over water, with or without palm trees.

Sunrises here in the rift valley are so-so, there are tall mountains in the way. Sunsets over the West Mesa, however, are usually nothing short of spectacular, especially when a volcano has contributed a little stratospheric debris somewhere.

Sitting on the beach in California, watching the last Ray's of the day fade beyond the horizon. Nothing can compare.

We have it all. If one region of California is not to your liking, there is surely one region that is.

I picked my Tikki user name after a surfer I went to HS with in Ventura County.

Perfect point break, with waves stacked up one after another, giving you a nice long ride to shore.

"There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge." - Raymond Chandler, Red Wind, 1938

in and around Santa Barbara, but just a bit down the Coast we experience
a similar pattern.

Not often; but if Santa Barbara has Sundowners more intense
than what I've experienced...then Whoa.

I just stood there on the beach watching the sunset and felt the wind and heat
rising quicker and quicker all around me. The cool Ocean breeze just disappears in one moment.

Chandler is a grand read....

West coast sunsets are remarkable, including those along the west coast of Florida.

Florida sunsets are absolutely stunning, especially if there are storm clouds on the horizon to the west. Watching the remarkable interplay of brown and purple and red and other shades and colors is both inspiring and humbling -- I think it's a key reason why people retire there.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to spend time both here in California and in Florida.
