L.A. Super Bowl pushed back a year to 2022 because of construction delays

The delay of the opening of the Rams and Chargers new Inglewood stadium will also delay the Super Bowl’s return to Los Angeles.

NFL owners on Tuesday voted to move L.A.’s Super Bowl hosting duties from 2021 to 2022. Los Angeles was awarded the 2021 Super Bowl last May after the Rams had been approved to relocate from St. Louis to Los Angeles in early 2016.

Los Angeles was awarded the 2021 Super Bowl last May after the Rams had been approved to relocate from St. Louis to Los Angeles in early 2016, with the projected opening of their $2.6 billion, 70,000 stadium opening in 2019.

But after construction was delayed by nearly 60 days due to heavy rainstorms in the area from November to February, that opening was pushed back to 2020.
