CA has been going like blockbusters ever since the Dems have been back in control. The economy, jobs, energy, etc. and the GOP is MAD! Too bad GOP!

(3,998 posts)Seriously, you do not want to drive around Portland with CA plates. Your car will be vandalized. Don't even tell anyone you are from CA.

Every time there's a song about California we get a new flood of immigrants seeking refuge from red states. Hey, it sucks here. Really it does.
We are just fine as 3 states. Oregon and Washington have their own character, individually. Beside we would lose 4 senators.

The 39 million people living in California get 2 Senators, while the 39 million people living in the smallest 22 states get 44 Senators.
Explains quite a lot about the condition of this country. There was a purpose to the bicameral legislature; it has become two skewed against not merely regions but against modern civilization itself.
Yes, I know the senate is the more moderate branch but theres more to the story than that.

(1,366 posts)the homeless situation in southern California is something that probably hasn't been seen since the Grapes of Wrath Days. There is some sort of mismatch here- booming economy but there is a subset of people who aren't benefiting.

(51,582 posts)A 550 sq ft apt in San Diego that isn't even on the beach is $1,500 a month! Gas is $3.35 for med. unleaded and the list goes on. A person has to work two jobs if he wants to raise a family. But it is that way in a lot of cities all over the country. What we save in heating our homes and not having to deal with bad weather doesn't go far. After moving from the East Coast I always said I would rather be homeless and not freezing than homeless and freezing. It all depends on how you look at it and what your personal preferences and priorities are I guess.

(1,366 posts)can happen under Democratic control and that the GOP may become extinct there. It can most certainly explain the increases in homelessness-esp as a desirable place to be. Thanks for adding that perspective.

(10,893 posts)there's the situation of people who are from out of state having a better shot at going to our universities than native Californians, and people buying up real estate who don't even live here full-time.
