Related: About this forumGEEZ!!! There are 27 candidates running for Governor here. I'll be voting for Gavin Newsom, but
he is the 26th listed candidate on the ballot, and I sure hope people pay attention who they are voting for
This is getting ridiculous

(58,763 posts)I'm voting for Gavin in November, but I voted Villaragosa now to shut out the Republicans.
Thatll probably be me too. We dont need another anti union charter school lackey. That being said we need a republican much less. So i will be voting for villairagosa right now.

(34,195 posts)The poll, released Thursday by the UC Berkeley Institute for Governmental Studies, found Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, continuing to lead the field for governor with 30 percent among likely voters, followed by Republicans John Cox, a San Diego County businessman, at 18 percent, and Travis Allen, an Orange County state assemblyman, at 16 percent.
Thats a change from previous results, which had Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a Democrat, in second or third place. Villaraigosa dropped to 9 percent ...

(11,088 posts)Its not a conspiracy... We just want to keep a republican from getting on the ballot in november to suppress the down ticket congressional races. Okay maybe a little.

(1,018 posts)It would really help us to have two Democrats running for Governor in November. LaMalfa is a Trump sycophant besides being just a horrible Rep. The District will be tough for a Dem even though LaMalfa won 59% which seems like little based on recent Special Election outcomes, BUT this is a mostly rural district, uninformed and gun lovers. Don't think it will flip without some help.
Additionally, we have three good Dem candidates and a Green Party candidate, so we might end up with the two Republicans in November. Hopefully that won't happen.

(10,133 posts)The Secretary of State re-arranges the alphabet for each election cycle, then for Assembly district 1 lists the candidates in that order. The list is cycled for each subsequent Assembly district, so the first candidate becomes the last, etc.
Why? Some studies have shown that the first person listed tends to get more votes, and this system eliminates that bias. It's not bad when there are a handful of candidates, but the statewide campaigns get lots of candidates - probably because we have lot of people.

If Newsom ends up running against a republican, so what, he will win on his own merits, but playing games like this with so many candidates running for Governor, anything can happen.
In fact if enough people play that "strategic game", Newsom just might not make it

I also do not think it matters in the legislative races
In fact in those races there are too many Democrats that are running against each other in republican districts, and there is a real probabibility that they will knock each other out

(51,584 posts)on their table. I was discussing it with my dad and I showed him how there were only 4 GOP candidates running out of all of them. I have a feeling it will be between Feinstein and DeLeon for senator and Newsome and Villaraigosa for governor. Feinstein's TV ads are pushing gun control and she wants universal healthcare and medicare for everyone over 55 but I don't know about DeLeon. So are the two gubernatorial candidates.

That's good enough to vote for Newsom as far as I'm concerned.

Your ballot will be returned if it does not have sufficient postage and then you may not have time to re-mail it to comply with the mail-in ballot deadline.
