and if you have ever spent a hot, humid Summer there you know the inspiration for that song. I have and it is no picnic.

I've been told how lucky I am to have grown up in California-- here it's a dry heat, which makes all the difference

Unfortunately, it's great for wildfires

and the Summers are icky. I have lived in S. CA for 30 years and it is drier here but the humidity has been increasing with the temps (especially the last 6 years). Two of my neighbors got air conditioners last year after I finally caved and decided it is better than suffering any longer. None of the schools I taught in had A/C and they were year round. The classroom was over 90 degrees for July and Sept. There was no money for A/C for the students, only the office staff (typical). The parents finally kept their kids home since they were getting sick and couldn't learn(it was impossible to teach too). That is when the school district changed its mind...money talks, especially with schools which are run like businesses. Each student brings in $ from the state each day they are present in class. If kids stay home...no $$$$. Presto...A/C is installed and the district gets money.

Except for those going to summer school, then the classes were held in the mornings.

Summer is my least favorite season!!

I knew it was more humid than normal for the past 5 or so years (I have a low tolerance for humidity...yuk!). I just read an article about how it is related to Climate Change...it makes the ocean warmer. That makes total sense and I am embarrassed I didn't make the connection.
