The Trump administration plans to eliminate the special waiver that allows California to regulate automobile emissions as part of its proposed revision of Obama-era standards, Bloomberg and Reuters reported Monday.
It is likely the proposal, which is expected to come out this week, would trigger a high-stakes legal fight between the federal government and the nations largest car market.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

(31,060 posts)If, say, this ends up in court, and in fact makes it all the way to The Supreme Court, there's a majority of pro-corporate justices who would be more than happy to twist, turn, and re-write the law to take away such state powers. Coudn't you see precedent used to override other state and regional issues as well?
Am I overly paranoid? Any lawyers out there?
