Related: About this forum$1,050-a-month to live in a San Diego SHED!
Reddit users have voiced their disgust with a San Diego real estate listing that is asking for just under $1,100 to live in a shed. Located in the city's University Heights, the tiny 'updated studio' is 200 sq-ft and is being managed by an Arizona company, JD Property Management and Realty.
The $1050 listing advertises that the studio comes with a bath and a 'small kitchen' that consists of several cabinets, a sink, gas stove and a mini fridge. Recently updated, the home does have freshly laminated floors and an AC unit.
Requirements to rent the property include having a credit score of 650 or more while also having no prior legal evictions. Potential renters are to also have an income that is 2.5 times the rental amount - so roughly $31,500.
Water is included but the property does not allow for pets and their is no laundry on site.

(4,925 posts)University Heights. I'm wondering if that is even a legal unit. I know of someone that literally rents out a shed in the back of someone's house. No kitchen or bath, they get use of a bath in the house. Totally illegal but the guy is really poor and at least he isn't living on the street.
Rents are increasing rapidly in our town but there can be deals to be found. There is a nice 2 on 1 close by...Owned by an older couple. They want good long term tenants and rarely raise the rent. The larger house is 1100sqft 2bd/2ba with laundry and parking...hear it is renting for around $1800/mo, the smaller house in back is also a 2bd/2ba with laundry and about 800/850 sqft...Think that is going for $1600/mo
You have to look hard and pounce on these deals. Looking around in my area and seems most 2bd apts/condos are going for at least $2000, most are $2500 to $3500...New places can go for more. Even the suburbs are getting quite expensive.

(4,925 posts)The city tore down and rebuilt the Fire Station across the street. The Jack-in-the-Box next to that has been remodeled twice now. The old antique store next to Studio 819 is gone, the building has been saved (it looked like it was falling down) and is now a Better Buzz coffee house...and a Ramen house is opening up next door as well.

Think I paid about $700 a month.

(51,567 posts)I live by the DMV in Univ Heights/Hillcrest and the rents are astronomical here. That shed is in North Park and has plumbing, a small stove and fridge and A/C. 200 sq feet is pretty small for a studio but I can see how they could actually get close to that amount in rent. Location, location, location. I could sell my 500 sq foot apt and buy a 4 bedroom house in many other states. Ridiculous!
