Until Wednesday,
the flavor of the month on the California political scene was Chamath Palihapitiya, a billionaire Silicon Valley venture capitalist who was getting plenty of Twitterverse attention for endorsing the recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom and saying he might run to replace him.
Until Wednesday. When he said he wasnt.

Speculation was ramping up this week that Palihapitiya would run when he backed up his talk with some loose change
he donated $100,000 to the GOP-led committee backing Newsoms recall. The strange part: Palihapitiya typically favors Democrats, having donated $1.3 million to party candidates over the past decade.
Well, except for $7,500 that he gave to Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in 2011.

Its just this sense that Im smart and Ive succeeded at tech whether by hitting a lottery ticket at Facebook or building my own company so surely I can succeed at politics, something that is seen as dirty and messy and inefficient, said Donnie Fowler, a longtime Democratic strategist who has worked for the past two decades to link Silicon Valley and the political world.
But it doesnt work, in the same way that I wouldnt hire a former NFL player and expect him to be a James Beard Award-winning chef, said Fowler, who teaches at the University of San Francisco.
It was always fuzzy whether Palihapitiya would really run. He slapped up a website at chamathforca.com featuring some of his policy proposals, which were thinner than the iPhone 12.
Please CA, self-indulgent vultures with buying power are eyeing your State gov't.
Billionare venture capitalists. Republicans would love to turn CA into another Florida or Texas.
