Home burglaries are on the rise in San Francisco

The spike in home burglaries in San Francisco has stirred concern among residents over how to stay safe or prevent home break-ins, but there are myriad steps residents can take to keep their residences safe.

Citywide, burglaries — including residential and commercial break-ins — are up 58% so far this year, compared to the same period a year ago, according to San Francisco Police Department data.

In hard-hit San Francisco neighborhoods like the Richmond and Marina districts, some residents have adopted a siege mentality, banding together to help one another secure their homes and garages.

Before the pandemic, Wyatt said daytime home burglaries often occurred between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while residents were at work. Most recent burglaries have taken place during the night although daytime burglaries still can happen.

From smash and grab auto burglaries and catalytic converters to this. I was the victim of a daylight assault in S.F. many years ago. It is very unsettling.
