Caitlyn Jenner says she will run for governor of California

Republican Caitlyn Jenner said Friday she will run for governor of California, injecting a jolt of celebrity into an emerging campaign that threatens to oust Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office. Jenner — an Olympic hero, reality TV personality and a transgender rights activist — said in statement posted on Twitter and on an accompanying website that she has filed initial paperwork to run for the post.

In a statement, Jenner called herself “a proven winner” and the only candidate “who can put an end to Gavin Newsom’s disastrous time as governor. I’m in,” she wrote on her website.

The 71-year-old celebrity activist immediately stands out in a growing field that so far has failed to attract a nationally known contender. However, Jenner is untested as a candidate and little is known about her positions on critical issues facing the state, from the coronavirus pandemic to managing the economy.

She described herself as “economically conservative, socially progressive” in a People magazine interview last year.

Al Franken was an exception.

Others have often been a disaster to various degrees. Like Ronald Reagan, former movie actor or Arnold Schwarzenegger, who wasn’t particularly successful either.

At the time he originally ran.

It turned out he was the best qualified Senator I had ever seen. I WISH he would get back into politics- he’s a fantastic guy and a real leader.

waiving the necessity of being American by birth so that Schwarzenegger could run for president.

They fall for mediocre celebrity.

Tee-hee

Though Caitlyn Jenner is one of the most famous transgender people in America, the announcement of her candidacy for California governor was greeted hostilely by one of the state’s largest LGBTQ-rights groups and by many trans activists around the country.

“Make no mistake: we can’t wait to elect a #trans governor of California,” tweeted the group, Equality California. “But @Caitlyn_Jenner spent years telling the #LGBTQ+ community to trust Donald Trump. We saw how that turned out. Now she wants us to trust her? Hard pass.”
