Calif. Rep. McLeod (35th District) to Retire, Run for Supervisor

Democratic Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod says she will retire after one term and run for county supervisor in San Bernardino, Calif.

Negrete McLeod announced her plans in a statement on Tuesday. She said her desire to represent her community locally where she has lived for more than 40 years outweighed another bid for Congress.

Democrats are expected to hold the Southern California seat.

Negrete McLeod, who knocked out fellow Democrat Joe Baca in a runoff, won in 2012 with 56 percent of the vote. She has served on the Agriculture and Veterans Affairs committees during her time in the House

Most politicians out here view a seat in Congress as the Holy Grail, because under the Constitution, they cannot be term-limited. Usually office-swapping happens because of term limits; we have a supervisor here (Santa Clara Co.) who ran because he was termed out of the state Senate.

It also sucks to be anyone else who had an eye on that supervisor's seat!

and still get her check? From her bio:

Prior to serving in Congress, Gloria began her career in public service as a board member -- and then president -- of the Chaffey Community College Board before being elected to California’s State Assembly in 2000 and State Senate in 2006.

Gloria and her husband Gilbert L. McLeod, a retired police lieutenant, have lived in the district for more than 43 years, raising 10 children, 27 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

I'm not in her district, we are just over the hill in O.C.

I had hoped she would have upped her game and ran for Waxman's seat

maybe she doesn't feel she would be able to accomplish much.
Of course, I don't know anything about her motivation.
